About Jo Berge

Founder and Lead Trainer

Throughout my life, animals have been a source of companionship, peace, and happiness. My love for dogs began at a very young age. I was lucky enough to have a family dog from the time I was very young throughout my childhood and adolescence. In adulthood, I owned a Beagle-mix, three Vizslas, and three horses that I competed in field trials with. I have also fostered puppies and helped them become successful family members in their forever homes.

My approach is centered around the owner understanding the mind of a dog, as well as pack behavior, and what the dog is communicating to them. By understanding a dog’s mindset, we can more effectively communicate with them and become the leader the dog has been looking for.

MENTORSHIP JOURNEY

In 2009, I got my first vizsla and met Sonny Piekarz, of Hay Creek Kennel in Gilman, WI. He helped train my vizslas to be bird dogs but also mentored me and taught me how to be the best leader for my dogs. Whenever I visited Hay Creek Kennel to pick up or drop off my dogs for training, I was lucky enough for Sonny to let me tag along for part of the day, helping to train dogs, and in turn learning more about myself as a leader than anything.

Through Sonny, I was introduced to Jordan Wells, of J. Wells Kennels in Woodstock Valley, CT. Together, they developed The Method™ Dog Training System. I was fortunate enough to visit J. Wells Kennels and apprentice with Jordan and his team, taking in everything having to do with dog training, boarding, doggy daycare, and the business side of running a dog training business and kennel.

I’ve always felt excited and energized by working with dogs and learning subtle cues the dogs are giving me. Sonny and Jordan have been effective, dependable mentors for me and have helped me be the best leader to dogs that I can be. I am incredibly grateful to have been taught by the best and to continue to learn from their guidance and excellence in dog training.
